How Kokonsa works
Kokonsa reports the news that matters to Ghana. This page sets out the standards every story follows, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.
Where our stories come from
The Kokonsa Newsroom compiles its reports from multiple Ghanaian news outlets and official sources, with the help of automated tools. Every story is published under the byline Kokonsa Newsroom.
Confirmation before publication
A story is published only when it has been reported independently by at least two outlets. Independence is strict:
- Outlets owned by the same media group count as one.
- A news agency's original wire report counts once; outlets that republish it do not count again.
- Official primary sources (for example the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Statistical Service, Parliament, the Ministry of Finance and the Electoral Commission) may be reported on their own.
- Election results are published only from the Electoral Commission or at least three independent outlets.
How a story is written
- Every claim is attributed to the outlet or official body that reported it.
- Anything only one outlet reports, or that outlets disagree on, is listed as disputed or unconfirmed.
- Stories are written in our own words. We never copy an outlet's wording outside a marked quote.
Live updates
When new facts emerge, the story is updated and the update time changes. Developing stories are labelled as such until the facts settle.
Sensitive stories
Stories involving politics, crime, death, minors, elections or health follow stricter rules: claims are always attributed, accusations are reported as allegations rather than fact, and minors and victims of sexual offences are never named.
Corrections and rejoinders
Every story has a form to request a correction or submit a rejoinder. A submission flags the story immediately. Read the corrections and rejoinders policy.
