NHIA launches schools quiz to teach students about health insurance

The National Health Insurance Authority launched an inter-school quiz and a campaign to educate secondary students about the health scheme on Tuesday at Kintampo Senior High School in the Bono East Region. Dr Victor Asare Bampoe, the NHIA's chief executive, said the drive aims to give young people a solid grasp of how the scheme works and how to use it.

• The NHIA, working with the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, is running the competition and a series of school visits to explain the health insurance scheme to students.
• The scheme will cover how the NHIS operates, what services it pays for, rules on who gets free care, and how to sign up and renew membership using the MyNHIS app or by dialling *929#.
• Forty-eight schools will take part overall, selected from all 16 regions of Ghana, with each school fielding a team of three pupils.
• A team led by Dr Ruth Kukua Ntumy Coleman, the NHIA's client services manager, visited schools in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions in late September and early October, with more visits planned for the Ashanti Region.
